Tuhon Apolo Ladra is the Founder of the iKALI and the World Kali Association. The WKA was created to standardize curriculum and requirements for students, instructors and school owners while spreading the indigenous art of the Philippines, the Art of Blade, worldwide.
The WKA serves to provide real-time resources for school owners and instructors as well as deliver distance learning courses for students who want personalized instruction for him. Tuhon Apolo also founded the Filpino Kali Academy network and it’s Interactive Virtual University counterpart. The FKA now has locations around the globe as an official training location with certified instructors in the iKALI Curriculum. His concept of “Learn to Teach, Teach to Learn” has produced countless young leaders from adolescence to adults.
Impressively his programs are designed to complement any martial arts style utilizing endless fun, challenging and exciting drills to invigorate and retain students and are being utilized by school owners in countries to include Brazil, Hong Kong, Puerto Rico, Philippines, Australia, Canada, Caribbean and throughout the United States. Currently, over 30,000 kids have and/or are currently training under his iKali4Kids program.
Ian has over 40 years’ experience of teaching, training and competing in a diverse range of martial art disciplines. His accomplished competitive history spans 2 decades and includes holding National, European, and World titles in both kickboxing and self-defence.
Ian has also received a number of other awards including, Sports Personality of the year, awarded by the Chamber of Commerce for services to the Martial Arts, and in 2019 was inducted into the United Kingdom Martial Arts Hall of Fame. As the Senior Instructor at Combat Academy U.K. Ian has tutored and mentored over 6,500 junior and adult members since he created the Academy in 1989. He runs a successful school martial arts program within the Thames Valley, and regularly conducts seminars and workshops promoting martial arts as a vehicle for both personal and community development at schools and youth groups across the U.K..
He has been the guest of honour, invited to present annual awards and deliver the keynote speech at U.K. specialist schools. Ian also provides specialist workshops in self-defence and knife crime prevention for children and young adults.
